Director Joins Computer Science Faculty

Dr. Michael Rappa, the director and founder of the Institute for Advanced Analytics and Distinguished University Professor, has accepted an invitation to become a member of the Computer Science faculty in the College of Engineering. Commenting on the appointment, Dr. Rappa said “The Department of Computer Science is quite exceptional and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work more closely with so many talented colleagues I have known and respected throughout my time at NC State.” Analytics is growing in importance within the field of computer science. Several faculty in the department contribute significantly to furthering the NC State’s leadership in Analytics.

Dr. Rappa first proposed the creation of the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) in April 2006 and since then has led its development and implementation. He was named an associate faculty member of the Computer Science in 2003 and is also a member of the faculty in Operations Research. Prior to joining NC State has was a member of the faculty at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
