Become a Practicum Sponsor

The Institute invites interested organizations to submit a proposal to sponsor a practicum team project for the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) Class of 2016. Since 2007, our students have conducted a wide variety of projects—nearly 90 in all—from virtually every industry sector, as well as state and federal government agencies. Sponsors identify challenging business problems and share data for their team to analyze. The 8-month project is conducted confidentially and without a sponsorship fee. The proposal submission period is open through July 1.

2015 Commencement Exercises

The Institute held its 8th annual commencement exercises today for candidates in the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) Class of 2015. Diplomas were conferred to eighty-six degree candidates on a beautiful sunny morning at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh. Surrounded by family and friends, the graduates had much to celebrate as they embark on their new careers as analytics professionals.

Practicum Teams Deliver Results

The Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) Class of 2015 is on the final leg of its journey, as seventeen practicum teams bring to culmination eight months of work pouring over large volumes of complicated data and building models. Many of the teams are on the road this week traveling to destinations around North Carolina and as far away as Boston, New York, and Jacksonville, Florida, to deliver the results of their practicum projects to their sponsors. Students conducted a wide array of studies, from the analysis of warranty claims to optimizing civilian mass-evacuation procedures in response to a disaster, and more.

Director Speaks at Data Science Forum

The Institute’s director Dr. Michael Rappa spoke to a international congregation of academics at the Data Science and Advanced Analytics Forum hosted by SAS, in Cary. The two-day forum highlighted the development of graduate education in the field, and how universities and industry can work together in developing curricula and enhancing education with real-world problems and data. Alliance Opening

Institute Set to Grow

The Institute will relocate in May to Alliance Center, a newly constructed building on Centennial Campus. The 26,000 square foot facility will allow the Institute to increase enrollment in the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) degree program to 120 students for the Class of 2016, and can accommodate up to 160 students—doubling the Institute’s current operating capacity. The MSA, which launched with 24 students.
