ASA Symposium on Risk

The Institute’s Dr. Susan Simmons will host the American Statistical Association (ASA) Section on Risk Analysis Bernie Harris Memorial Symposium, May 10-11, 2018. This year’s Symposium will address the emerging challenges for risk analysis as it relates to a wide range of topics, including: the environment, the economy, national security, climate change, and health. New Alumni Report

A new report published today offers insights into the professional status and career progression over the past decade of the Institute’s 650 alumni in the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) degree program. The Alumni Report documents the distribution of MSA graduates by organization, geography, and industry sector, as well as the incidence of employment promotions and transitions. Students Bring Holiday Cheer

A warm heartfelt thank you goes out to the students in the MSA Class of 2018 who employed their organizing skills to deliver holiday cheer to young patients at WakeMed Children’s Hospital. Students generously raised over $1,500 in donations, and then went on a shopping spree to gather an assortment of gift items most in need for children in the hospital during the holiday season. Busy Fall Recruiting Season

Our appreciation goes out to the data science recruiting team at Putnam Investments for visiting the Institute and meeting with our students, capping one of our busiest fall seasons for employer information sessions. The Institute opened its doors to over two dozen employers for gatherings during the fall semester. From Boston to Tampa, and clear across the country, employers flocked to the Institute to meet the 111-student cohort in our Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) Class of 2018. And we are grateful to all of them for taking time from their busy schedules to share their passion for data analytics with our students.

Applying for the Class of 2019

The Institute welcomes applicants for the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) Class of 2019, our 12th student cohort, which will begin studies next summer (June 2018). The MSA is the nation’s longest running full-fledged master’s degree program in data science with an unparalleled track record for producing highly sought-after graduates. Practicum Team Kick-off Meetings

Twenty-two student teams of the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) traveled to meet with their sponsors recently. Up and down the east coast from Massachusetts to Florida and as far west as Kansas and Texas, teams traveled to speak with executives, review business objectives, and to familiarize themselves with the sponsor organization and industry. Practicum Sponsors Announced

The Institute is delighted to announce the sponsors of the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) Class of 2018 practicum team projects. This year 22 student teams are tasked with projects from 22 sponsoring organizations. New sponsors include the Institute’s first projects with Nashville-based Asurion, Duke Health, General Motors, and several others. Represented on this year’s list are major financial institutions, retailers, insurers, health providers, and technology enterprises. Institute to Host Forecasting Conference

The Institute is delighted to host The 4th Annual Foresight Practitioner Conference: Recoupling Forecasting with Inventory Control and Supply Planning on November 15-16, 2017. Produced in conjunction with Foresight: The International Journal of Applied Forecasting, the conference program features talks by nine forecasting experts, including keynote speaker Aris Syntetos, Professor of Operational Research and Operations Management at Cardiff University, who will share his recommendations for better communication between demand forecasters and inventory controllers.
