At their meeting today in Greensboro, the University of North Carolina Board of Governors voted to authorize the Master of Science in Analytics at NC State. The status of the degree program is now official. Our deep appreciation goes out to all who have played a role in the program’s creation. To the many prospective students who have expressed an interest in the degree, thank you for your patience. The online application process will begin in the next few days.
Authorization Granted to Plan Institute
Today, the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. John Gilligan, made a formal request to Chancellor Oblinger for authorization to plan the new Institute for Advanced Analytics, and the Chancellor approved the request.
M.S. in Analytics Recommended for Approval
The General Administration of the University of North Carolina System has recommended approval of the NC State request to establish the Master of Science degree in Analytics to the UNC Board of Governors, effective July 2007. Approval of the degree will be an action item on the Board’s agenda for February 8-9.
Prospective Student Survey
Prospective students for the proposed M.S. in Analytics are invited to participate in a ten-minute survey. The information gathered will assist us in developing the new curriculum. Our sincere thanks go out to the many individuals who have already participated.
Degree Authorization Advances
Today the “Request for Authorization to Establish” the M.S. in Analytics moved into the final stage of the approval process with delivery of the necessary documents to the University of North Carolina System for consideration by the Board of Governors.
Proposal Awaits Chancellor’s Approval
The request for authorization to plan the new Institute for Advanced Analytics has been reviewed and endorsed by the Research Operations Council and by the Council of Deans. The proposal has been forwarded today to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. John Gilligan, for his signature and presentation to Chancellor James Oblinger. Approval is expected upon finalization of the University’s new guidelines for the creation of Centers, Institutes and Laboratories in January.
Executive Advisory Board Meets
The first biennial meeting of the Executive Advisory Board was held today on the campus of SAS Institute. All members of the board were in attendance. Members reviewed the progress made during the past six months toward the creation of the new Master of Science in Analytics degree, including what remains in the final steps of the approval process. Information was presented regarding prospective students and career opportunities for graduates, as well as information from the ongoing discussion among faculty regarding the Analytics curriculum. Trustees Review Degree Proposal
Trustees at NC State University met today to review the proposal for the M.S. in Analytics. A presentation was made by the Dean of the Graduate School followed by a lengthy question-and-answer period with board members. The conversation touched upon many facets of the program. The proposal now awaits Chancellor Oblinger’s signature before being forwarded to the UNC System Board of Governors for the final stage in the review process for authorization of the degree. The Board in expected to meet in January.
University Council Endorses Proposal
In an overwhelming vote of support, the 30-member University Council endorsed the Analytics graduate degree proposal at its meeting this morning. The Council is the principal university body where an advisory vote is taken prior to institutional decisions. The proposal has been placed on agenda for discussion at the mid-November meeting of the NC State Board of Trustees.
Steering Committee Meets
The members of the Steering Committee of the Analytics Working Group met today to discuss the first round of curriculum suggestions for the M.S. in Analytics. Over the past few weeks thirty-three members of the Analytics Working Group faculty from seven colleges submitted a total of forty module suggestions.
