Presentation to Administrative Board

A presentation of the Analytics degree proposal was made to the 24-member Administrative Board of the Graduate School. There was a lengthy and thorough discussion and Board members provided several helpful comments. The written proposal has been revised to address questions raised during the meeting. The proposal will be voted upon the the Board’s next meeting in September.

Faculty Working Group Formed

An interdisciplinary working group with over thirty NC State faculty has been formed to define the curriculum for the proposed degree in Analytics. The working group is guided by a steering committee, which includes: David Dickey, Julie Earp, Charles Jones, Michael Rappa, Henry Schaffer and Laurie Williams. The working group is open to all faculty who wish to participate in the curriculum discussion.

Graduate Operations Council

A presentation was made to the Graduate Operations Council (GOC)—the associate deans of graduate studies for each of the ten colleges—August 2 and members had an opportunity to ask questions about the degree proposal for Analytics. Follow-up meetings were held individually with several associate deans to provide them with further details about the proposal, including Jo-Ann Cohen (Physical and Mathematical Sciences), Kenneth Esbenshade (Agriculture), Neil Olson (Veterinary Medicine), and Sarah Rajala (Engineering).
