Executive Guest Lecture – Agus Sudjianto

The Institute is delighted to announce that Dr. Agus Sudjianto, senior vice president and head of Quantitative Risk at Bank of America will deliver our fifth Executive Guest Lecture of 2009 on November 30. Dr. Sudjianto’s talk is titled “Quantitative Risk Management at Bank of America.” Bank of America is one of the world’s largest financial institutions, serving individual consumers, small and middle market businesses, as well as large corporations with a full range of banking, investing, asset management and capital market. Data-driven business analytics and quantitative models are ubiquitous in all these business activities. The ability to handle very large data sets and transform them into insightful and forward-looking information is crucial to provide the best service to customers/clients as well as to maximize shareholder values.

Out-of-the-box thinker quantitative associates are in a high demand. They are needed to analyze and solve business problems using quantitative framework so that business decisions can be made with high confidence of success. Quantitative careers in Bank of America are available for graduates with a diverse set of academic backgrounds, ranging from undergraduate degrees in general quantitative disciplines (e.g., engineering, physics, statistics, and math) to a very specialized Ph.D. discipline.

Dr. Sudjianto will discuss quantitative careers at Bank of America, with a special emphasize on credit risk management. The presentation will start with an introduction to credit process accompanied by many quantitative examples to illustrate the diversity of quantitative models used in Banking such as portfolio optimization, simulation, event history analysis to model credit risk, stochastic dynamic model of credit cycle, a spatial-temporal model to visualize and detect emerging risk, and machine learning methods to model consumer behavior.

Prior to joining Bank of America in 2004, Dr. Sudjianto was an engineer and manager with the Ford Motor Company for over 10 years. He holds a B.S. in Physics, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering from Wayne State University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition to numerous technical publications in leading engineering and statistics journals, Dr. Sudjianto is a co-author of Design and Modeling for Computer Experiments and holds several U.S. patents in engineering and finance. His current research interest includes new methods in credit risk, computational finance, and applications of statistical learning.

The Institute gratefully acknowledges the generous support of SAS as sponsor of the guest lecture series.
