Practicum Team Kick-offs

Twenty-four teams of Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) students spread out across the country the past few weeks to kick-off practicum projects with their sponsors. From Boston to Orlando to Dallas, Texas, teams traveled to meet with executives to review business objectives and to familiarize themselves with the sponsor organization and industry. The MSA Class of 2017 brings the total number of practicum projects to 130 with over 100 sponsors since the Institute’s inception in 2007. The projects cover a wide spectrum of problem areas and industries.

“It’s great to see our students on the move,” said the Institute’s director Dr. Michael Rappa. “Meeting with sponsors is critical to the successful launch of the projects. It gives students the opportunity to hear first hand what’s challenges an organization is striving to understand. That’s why these meetings are so important. So much of the teams’ efforts are working with data, but so much of it can be wasted effort unless you have a clear understanding of the business problems your tackling.”
