Schwartz to Head Admissions

The Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of Valerie Schwartz to the position of Head of Admissions. Most recently, Valerie served as Senior Assistant Director of NC State’s Park Scholarships program, where she managed recruitment and external communications, played a key role in the selection of award recipients, expanded the program’s fundraising initiatives, and advised Park Scholars on various projects. In her new position, Valerie will work in collaboration with Institute leadership to direct and manage a comprehensive recruitment, marketing, and admissions program with the goal of enrolling diverse and highly qualified Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) degree candidates.

“The number of analytics and data science master’s degree programs has increased dramatically over the past five years,” said the Institute’s director Dr. Michael Rappa. “Valerie will couple her expertise with the Institute’s distinctive reputation to attract and yield candidates for whom our program is the best fit and vice versa.”

Valerie Schwartz has worked in higher education recruitment and communications for 14 years. Prior to assuming her current role as head of admissions for NC State’s Institute for Advanced Analytics this summer, she had the pleasure (and challenge) of selecting and advising bright, service-oriented leaders for the Park Scholarships, NC State’s premiere merit scholarship program. Val’s past professional experience includes working in undergraduate admissions at Allegheny College, Gettysburg College, and Duke University; while at Duke she also launched and managed an on-campus, student-staffed marketing and design agency. Val holds a M.S. in technical communication from NC State and B.A. degrees in English and art history from Gettysburg College.
