At the 3rd Symposium on Storytelling with Data, industry professionals, educators, and students spent the afternoon learning about and discussing how data storytelling can be effectively used when communicating with different audiences. Speakers from Northwestern University, Microsoft Research, University of Utah, NC State University, and Tableau shared best practices, storytelling structure, tools, and techniques The Institute’s Dr. Chris West and Dr. Sarah Egan Warren moderated breakout rooms where participants were able to discuss aspects of storytelling in a small group setting. The symposium was organized by NC State University’s Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Bioinformatics Research Center and the Institute for Advanced Analytics and made possible through sponsor support from BCBS of NC, OneTrust, PRS Health Sciences, and Renaissance Reinsurance.

Institute Welcomes Class of ’22
The Institute welcomes 122 candidates in the Class of ’22, its 15th cohort in the Master of Science in Analytics. The result of a highly selective process of admission, the ’22 cohort includes a diverse demographic of students representing 21 states from coast-to-coast and 13 countries of origin. 2021 Director’s Prize

Responsible Machine Learning Conference
Registration is now open for the WiDS-Raleigh @ Institute for Advanced Analytics 2021 Responsible Machine Learning conference to be held June 3-4. The event is completely online and free to attend. Organized by the Institute in cooperation with RTI International, the 2-day conference will coincide with the annual Women in Data Science Worldwide conference hosted by Stanford University.

Class of ’21 Employment Report
Keeping with tradition, the Institute published its comprehensive Employment Report immediately upon graduation. Despite the challenges caused by the global pandemic, the Class of ’21 matched the Institute’s historical placement average of 92% at graduation over the past 14 years. The average salary reached $97,200 (based on 100% reporting salary data).
