The Institute for Advanced Analytics recently hosted a group of 40 undergraduate students from the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain for a weeklong immersion program. The students, all of whom are studying economics and data science, received instruction from Institute faculty and alumni on topics ranging from data visualization to Bayesian statistics. They learned professional networking strategies from the Institute’s career services team, and had the opportunity to put those skills into practice with current MSA students, alumni, and even NC State’s mascots — Mr. and Ms. Wuf! During the evenings, the students enjoyed bowling, ice skating, and exploring the Raleigh area. 

Dr. Susan Simmons has co-authored two research articles appearing in Environmetrics, the journal of The International Environmetrics Society (TIES), an Association of the International Statistical Institute. Environmetrics is devoted to the dissemination of high-quality statistical and mathematical research in the environmental sciences.

The Institute’s director, Dr. Michael Rappa, spoke on the subject of promise and challenges of GenAI with a distinguished panel of industry experts—Alexandra West, Christopher Poggi, and Marinela Profi, and Wells Fargo’s Chief Data Officer, Brian Gibbons. The event was sponsored by the Wells Fargo Technology Banking and Middle Market Banking team and hosted at SAS Institute.

The Institute’s Dr. Aric LaBarr will speak on the subject of developing credit scoring models for banking and beyond at the Open Data Science Conference (ODSC) East.
