NC State’s Institute for Advanced Analytics welcomes Hunter Glanz to its faculty as an associate teaching professor. Glanz previously taught statistics and data science at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, CA from 2014-2025. He then spent a year teaching at California State University, Monterey Bay.

Glanz earned his undergraduate degrees in statistics and mathematics from Cal Poly and his master’s and doctorate degrees in statistics from Boston University. His research areas include statistical computing and data science education, but he has also consulted on research across fields such as public health, dairy science, marine biology, metabolomics and remote sensing.

Here at the institute, Glanz will teach a variety of courses across the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) curriculum, including linear algebra, text analytics, and machine learning. 

“The MSA program is state of the art and one of a kind. I cannot think of a better place to be for this new chapter of my career,” Glanz said. “I’m also happy to get to celebrate the institute’s 20th anniversary at the end of my first year here.” 

Glanz currently serves on the ASA/AMATYC Joint Committee on Statistics and Data Science and was a founding board member of the California Alliance for Data Science Education. He has regularly spoken at conferences and workshops about data science education and program development.
