John Jernigan

Assistant Director and Head of Systems and Data Security

Bio

John Jernigan has led the creation of the Institute for Advanced Analytics’ technology, infrastructure and security policy that supports the unique MSA program since the first graduating class in 2008. He has grown along with the IAA over the full existence of the program. Encountering challenges in program expansion, evolving data and computational complexity, building a high-performance on-premises data center on a slim budget, navigating the coronavirus pandemic and providing engineering consultation and oversight to multiple moves to different buildings, this journey has been intense and rewarding. He is proud to have witnessed more than 1,500 alumni take their new skills into the workforce. Day to day, John manages information security for the IAA, protecting sponsor company data in the student practicum, and leading the IAA’s IT team.

Previously, John was the chief engineer at the student-run campus radio station 88.1 FM WKNC, as well as a student trainee at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center working in the Space Shuttle launch processing system.
