Congratulations to Paula Braun, Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) Class of 2013, who has been awarded a Selected Professions Fellowship by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). An Ohio native, Braun graduated summa cum laude from the University of Toledo, where she completed a B.A. in women’s studies and M.S. in mathematics and statistics. Prior to joining the MSA program, Braun worked as an analyst with the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction in Baghdad, and the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction in Kabul.
Established in 1970 with a grant from the Max C. Fleischmann Foundation, Selected Professions Fellowships originally focused on opening doors for women in the male-dominated fields of law and medicine. The program has since expanded to include science and technology because, while the demand for a technologically skilled workforce has grown, women remain underrepresented in these professions. Fellowships in architecture, computer and information sciences, engineering, and mathematics and statistics are currently available to women at various stages of their graduate training. AAUW is one of the largest sources of funding for graduate education for women. Since 1888, AAUW has provided more than $90 million to 11,000 fellows and grantees.
