Today the Institute welcomes to campus 84 candidates in the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) Class of 2013, the sixth cohort to enter its innovative 10-month program. Commenting on the occasion, the Institute’s director, Dr. Michael Rappa, said “The Class of 2013 represents a significant milestone in the evolution of the Institute and its MSA program. As the first and largest program of its kind, the preeminence of the MSA degree is grounded in our ability to attract the very best candidates from across the country and around the world. This is an extraordinarily talented and motivated group of individuals, carefully selected from a strong applicant pool. The Institute’s director, Dr. Michael Rappa, has been named Academic Co-chair of a newly convened Big Data Commission by the technology industry trade group TechAmerica Foundation in Washington DC. The Commission has been tasked with making recommendations on how to handle the mountains of data that are being generated by various agencies of the federal government. The Administration has recently turned its attention to the topic, announcing a $200 Million Big Data Research and Development Initiative. The 27-member Commission is chaired by Steve Mills, Senior Vice President and Group Executive, Software and Systems, IBM Corporation and Steve Lucas, Global Executive Vice President and General Manager, SAP Database and Technology.
