In an overwhelming vote of support, the 30-member University Council endorsed the Analytics graduate degree proposal at its meeting this morning. The Council is the principal university body where an advisory vote is taken prior to institutional decisions. The proposal has been placed on agenda for discussion at the mid-November meeting of the NC State Board of Trustees.

The members of the Steering Committee of the Analytics Working Group met today to discuss the first round of curriculum suggestions for the M.S. in Analytics. As the M.S. in Analytics degree proposal makes its way through the approval process, prospective students may wish to consider their options to prepare for possible admission to the program. The Executive Officers of NC State University voted unanimously today to endorse the M.S. in Analytics degree proposal. The proposal will now be forwarded to the University Council for discussion at its meeting on October 24.
Over the past few weeks members of the Analytics Working Group have begun to offer suggestions for learning modules as part of the curriculum for the proposed M.S. in Analytics. So far, 40 suggestions have been received with the help of 32 faculty across seven colleges. The modules are being compiled and organized by the steering committee for further discussion by the working group. In the next stage, we will begin to explore areas of complementarity, overlap and gaps in the curriculum. We will also encourage a discussion in the working group about how closely the curriculum meets the needs of target student population and employment opportunities. If you have a curriculum idea for the working group to consider, please speak up there is still an opportunity to influence the discussion.
